India Reports 61,408 New Coronavirus Cases, Tally Crosses 31 lakh mark

NEW DELHI: India’s COVID-19 cases crossed the 31,00,000-mark, with 61,408 new cases reported on Monday, August 24  said Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

With 61,408 reported in the past 24 hours, the cumulative coronavirus cases in the country climbed to  31,06,349. The death toll due to the virus rose to 57,542 with 836 fresh deaths reported across the country.

According to the data released by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, a total of 57,468 people discharged from the hospital after recovering from the virus and the total number of COVID-19 recoveries in the country rose to 23,38,036  till date. The country’s recovery rate was 74.90 per cent and the fatality rate stands at 1.86 per cent.

To contain the further spread of the virus India has increased the anti-COVID-19 measures including the improvement of  COVID-19 tests conducted across the country. On Monday, India conducted COVID-19 testing on  6,09,917 samples, with this centre government tested 3,59,02,137 samples so far, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Meanwhile, the coronavirus has infected more than 2.33 crore people across the world, and 8.07 lakh people have died of the virus, while 1.50 crore people have recovered from the virus.
