Shaurya Chakra awardee Balwinder Singh shot dead by two unidentified persons in Tarn Taran district of Punjab today. As Balwinder fought against the terrorism he and his family was targeted by terrorists’ for past few years. He was awarded the Shaurya Chakra in 1993.
Balwinder Singh (62) was at his office next to his residence in Bhikhivind village when two unidentified men on a motorbike opened fire and fled away from there, police said.
Out of the two people who came on bike, one went inside Balwinder house shot him. Balwinder Sigh was immediately rushed to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
Police said that they have filed a case and it is being investigated.
Balwinder’s brother Ranjit told media that the government had withdrawn security provided to Balwinder Singh, according to a report filed by Tarn Taran district police. He said all his family members were on the terrorist hit list. Many documentaries were created on Balwinder Singh life and bravery.
