13 Corona Patients in ICU Killed in Hospital Fire Accident

MUMBAI: In a tragic incident, 13 coronavirus patients including five women who were undergoing treatment in an ICU were died in a fire accident that took place in a hospital at Virar in Maharashtra on Friday, April 23.  

According to reports, there were 90 patients in the hospital and 18 of them were in the ICU unit in the second floor of the four-storey Vijay Vallabh Hospital at  the time of fire accident. Five patients were rescued from the fire accident and shifted to other hospital. As per the preliminary reports the fire accident took place due to blast in the AC unit during the wee hours of Friday around 3 AM. Fire extinguishers extinguished the fire around 5.20.  Maharashtra CM Thackeray ordered for a detailed probe into the incident and also announced Rs 5 lakh as ex gratia to the kin of deceased corona patients. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences to people who died in this fire accident.
